The Basic Training Programme for Police Officers at Umeå University was established in the autumn term of 2000. On the 4th June 2002 the first group of police students at Umeå graduated from Umeå. The basic training programme for police officers at Umeå University is commissioned by the National Police Board and has its organisational base at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The Swedish National Police Academy

The Swedish National Police Academy is the educational center for the entire police force and is organized as a division of The Swedish National Police Board. The Academy has approximately 170 employees and just under 1000 students (April 2004). The educational program of the Academy is formed in accordance with the directives issued by the government and parliament. The Academy endeavors to offer an educational program comparable to a university curriculum.
